Kailua-Kona born singer/songwriter Kimie Miner has a signature island style you can't help but sing along to. Her music seamlessly blends reggae, Hawaiian and soulful sounds with a touch of R&B and funk. Kimie (pronounced Kim-ee-ay) now lives in Hauula, Oahu—AKA the bottom of a rainbow—but travels all over the world to bring her melodies to the masses. Below, the inspiration behind her CD and music videos, as well as an inside scoop on her Hawaii hot spots.
INSPIRATION FOR LATEST CD & MUSIC VIDEOS:
The inspiration behind my self-titled CD came from returning home and the renewal of my connection to my roots. It's about rediscovering who I am.
My Bottom of a Rainbow music video shares the lifestyle, beauty and natural resources we possess in Hawaii, while Trouble's music video showcases the internal struggle we all face within ourselves. It's about coming into my own, accepting my flaws and using them to grow, to “spread my wings” in a sense.
FAVORITE BOUTIQUES/RESTAURANTS/FOOD TRUCKS/MARKETS,ETC.:
Poshd HI, Mint + Sea, Papa‘oles, Koko Head Cafe, Giovanni's Shrimp Truck, Waiahole Poi Factory and Waiahole Gardens Bistro. Makers and Tasters is a great new spot, too!
Hotel Lanai on the island of Lānaʻi is my new favorite. It's got a great restaurant and is in the heart of the town. Sheraton Waikiki is another great one!
THE BEST DAYS ARE SPENT...:
Waking with the sun, having my freshly ground Kona coffee, shelling and enjoying good home cooking with friends and family.
Kiholo Bay on Big Island and Makua on the west side of O'ahu.
CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT:
Waiola coconut water
WE SHOULD KNOW:
Because Hawaii chose me.
