3 MUST-STOP SHOPS IN MAKAWAO
Upcountry Maui is one of the most magical and eclectic places in the islands. Makawao's historic charm and bohemian spirit is not what most people expect when they think of Hawaii. Rather than the typical beach boutiques and surf shops, this small town's main streets are brimming with unique clothing and gift stores, as well as art galleries and inviting eateries. Below are just three must-stop shops in Makawao.
Driftwood Maui is one of the newest boutiques to open in Makawao. Carrie Gebb, also owner of Paragon Salon a few doors down, keeps the store stocked with local labels in fashion, home decor and food, but you'll also find contemporary cult labels like For Love & Lemons, Herbivore Botanicals and The Wild Unknown.
PINK BY NATURE
Desiree Martinez's Pink by Nature has been a go-to store for Makawao's modern bohemian since it opened in 2004. The rustic boutique on Baldwin Avenue is full of laid-back labels like Bella Dahl and Mother Denim, and stylish staples such as Frye boots, wool hats and buttery soft leather bags.

Another cozy boutique is The Mercantile where you can expect to find home decor and quality items like Citizens of Humanity jeans and cool and comfortable pieces from NSF and Frank & Eileen. There's also a wide variety of beauty buys from Kiehl's and local brands Rainbow Ridge and Zenziva. Don't forget to check out the textiles from John Robshaw.
